Thumbs Up was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 under the name Thumbs Up Sign and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015. Despite this possible use, it remains a popular means of quickly and earnestly expressing approval.

They really nailed SO many 80's details from the era, the cars, clothes, stereos, music, decor, food products, games, etc. In certain contexts, the use of the Thumbs Up emoji can be construed as being passive aggressive or sarcastic. Picarda, also known as Strawman Ball, Memeball or Thumbs Up Emoji Man, is a series of image macros featuring a 3D illustration of a smiley face making a thumbs-up gesture.
