Neither the park nor Jurek publicly stated what penalties the summons carry. After coming back down the mountain in the late afternoon, Jurek was seen with three park rangers near one of the trailheads to the mountain. In its statement on Facebook, Baxter State Park indicated Jurek was issued the summons at the top of the mountain, but witnesses reported not seeing that take place. Jurek’s wife, Jenny Jurek, told Newswire that the pair would not comment on the post at this time, other than to say, “We are dealing with this through the proper legal channels.” Through an assistant, he agreed to be interviewed on July 22, but did not call as scheduled. Runner’s World Newswire made several attempts to speak with Bissell. The Portland Press Herald reported that the post was written by Jensen Bissell, the park’s director. In addition, media personnel were issued a summons for violation of a commercial media permit which prohibited filming within 500' of Baxter Peak.
